Family Travels // Sydney, Australia

Its been a while since I last blogged, so I wanted to share some of my favs from our recent extra-long weekend in Sydney over Labour weekend.

After picking up our car from the and airport rental outfit, we drive ourselves a very short way to an incredible AirBnb in Marrickville. Initially we were a little apprehensive driving through what appeared to be a beaten-down suburb of Sydney. Well, don’t judge a book by its cover! We arrive to find an excellent little two bedroom apartment in the heart of Marrickville, within walking distance of the some the consistently-best coffee I’ve ever had at Bespoke and Grind. We soon found ourselves living like locals, taking morning coffee walks after which Sienna would run riot on a nearby playground. To be honest, stumbling upon this great suburb became an unexpected highlight of the trip. #lovetravel

The rest of the week was made up of taking a road trip up to Palm Beach to see Summer Bay from ‘Home and Away’. Its just not the same as on the TV and Alf Stewart was nowhere to be seen sadly. There were several forays into the Sydney CBD on the local public transport (train) from the nearby station, and a visit to the aquarium where we met some close friends who were also in town enjoying a trip of their own. Sydney Harbour never changes and I must admit, I really enjoyed the train ride through the botanic gardens hehe.

For the last two days we stayed with family in Paramatta and made the drive to the blue mountains. Sadly Sienna wasn’t so happy on cable cars and decided that was the day she was going to have the requisite ‘terrible two’ meltdown. That was an amazing sight though (the mountains not the tantrum!) and the drive out to Katoomba is quite spectacular in itself. I suspect mum and dad will go back there.

The last day we overloaded on local gastronomy at ‘The Henson’ which is a famous pub in Marrickville, while waiting to head to the airport. Enjoy and we thoroughly recommend Marrickville as a place to stay if you want to avoid the CBD of Sydney.
